HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw

Hello. The hp 179fnw has locked all the keys on the control panel except the power button. I can't log in via the web interface because I don't know the ID and password (the admin ID doesn't work without a password, and I can't print the report because of the key lock) . Please help me.

Hi @kompas_dar,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw. Here's a step-by-step guide on what you can do to attempt to resolve this issue.

Resetting the Printer

Given that the control panel keys are locked, you might need to perform a reset on the printer. However, please be aware that performing a factory reset may erase any customized settings, and you'll need to reconfigure your network settings afterward.

  • Power Cycle: First, try to perform a simple power cycle. Turn off the printer using the power button, unplug it from the power source, wait about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Factory Reset: If a power cycle doesn’t work, a factory reset might be required. Unfortunately, because of the locked keys, it might be difficult to access this feature directly from the printer's control panel. Commonly, a factory reset involves navigating printer menus that require access to the control panel, which might not be possible with your current key lock.
  • Web Interface: To access the printer through its web interface, it's crucial to have the administrator credentials. If you're unsure of these credentials, and the default ones are not working, you might need to consult with HP Support for assistance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
