Hi @Peishel,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the "Printer Failure" error with code 0x6100004a on the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 typically indicates a hardware or firmware issue. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this problem:
1. Power Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
- Turn the printer on and check if the error persists.
2. Check for Obstructions
- Open the printer's access panel and inspect for any paper jams, stuck pieces of paper, or debris that could be interfering with the print mechanism.
- Remove the ink cartridges and inspect for any debris or ink buildup in the cartridge slots.
- Reinstall the cartridges securely.
3. Reset the Printer
- Disconnect all cables (including USB and network).
- Perform a hard reset by:
- Turning off the printer.
- Holding the # and 3 buttons (or check your model’s specific reset combination) on the printer keypad while turning the printer back on.
- Release the buttons when the printer powers on.
- Reconnect the cables and test.
4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Download and install the latest firmware for the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 from the HP Support website.
- Follow the instructions to update the firmware via USB or over the network.
5. Perform a System Reset (if applicable)
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you can try a semi-full reset:
- Turn the printer off.
- Hold the # and 6 buttons on the keypad while turning it back on.
- Release the buttons when the printer powers on.
Note: A semi-full reset restores the printer to factory defaults. You may need to reconfigure settings after the reset.
