My printer used to print from both desktops and my laptop. Now my main desktop can't print. My other two PC's, (also running Windows 10 64 bit work fine.
If I sent a test page it says "printing" in the print queue, nothing prints and within ten seconds the print queue manager clears and it says 0 documents in queue.
I can see the printer online, it's shows the correct IP, I can scan documents from the printer from my main PC (that can't print), if I go into the HP print assistant I can successfully initiate an internal test print (self test page, not the "print a test page" under the "Manage your device menu) ) so I know my PC can communicate with the printer, send commands, do scans, change defaults, change settings but it can't print. It can't print if I do a test page or try to print from any application.
I have: uninstalled the driver and all the HP software and reinstalled it with the latest versions. I've ran SFC with no failures, I've ran the Windows print Troubleshooter. I AM able to print from this problem PC to another printer, a Samsung ML-1670
I suspect maybe a file or entry was deleted while running Glary Utilities or System Mechanic, even though I've ran then frequently in the past and they never created printing problems.
Any ideas why this one PC can't print to my Deskjet 3540 and why I can't fix the problem.

Hi @308moo,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already done a lot of troubleshooting with your Deskjet 3540 printer. Here are some additional steps you can take to resolve the issue with your main desktop:
1. Check Printer Port Settings:
- Go to Devices and Printers in Windows.
- Right-click on your Deskjet 3540 and select Printer properties.
- Under the Ports tab, make sure the correct port is selected (usually a TCP/IP port for network printers).
2. Clear Print Spooler:
- Sometimes, a stuck print spooler can cause issues. Here’s how to clear it:
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
- Find Print Spooler in the list, right-click it, and select Stop.
- Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete any files in that folder.
- Go back to services.msc, right-click Print Spooler again, and select Start.
3. Reset the Printer System:
- Go to Devices and Printers, right-click on your Deskjet 3540, and choose Remove device.
- Restart your computer, then reconnect and reinstall the printer.
4. Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings:
- Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block printing. Temporarily disable them to see if printing resumes. If it works, adjust the settings to allow the printer.
5. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. It can help diagnose and fix issues automatically.
6. Update Windows:
- Make sure your Windows 10 installation is fully updated. Sometimes updates include fixes for printing issues.
7. Check Default Printer Settings:
- Ensure your Deskjet 3540 is set as the default printer on your main desktop. Go to Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and select Set as default printer.
8. Check for Conflicting Software:
- If you've been using software like Glary Utilities or System Mechanic, consider rolling back any recent changes they made, or uninstalling them temporarily to see if they are causing conflicts.
9. Create a New User Profile:
- Sometimes, user profile settings can interfere with printing. Create a new user account on your PC and see if printing works from there.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the list of troubleshooting steps. It's still not working after going through them.
Here's what I've found:
I don't have any printers listed under Devices and drives" in "This PC".
If I go to Control panel-All Control Panel Items-Devices and Printers, then I see my printers. I right-clicked on "Printer Properties" ( not "Properties" at the very bottom) and I clicked on the Ports tab. The box for port WSD-2c55c952-ddef-4b94-b270-3209d5edaf90, Description=WSD Port, Printer- HP Deskjet 3540 series (network) is checked.
If I click on "Configure port it shows the IP 192.168.1.16 (but no port number)
Lower on the list is a option to check port 192.168.1.16, Description-Standard TCP/IP Port, Printer- nothing is listed.
Here's the location http://192.168.1.16:3911 if I uncheck the WSD port and check the 192.168.1.16, TCP/IP Port, and apply it, hit okay, exit and restart and come back and look at the Properties again, the check in front of the WSD is back and the one in front of port 192.168.1.16 has been cleared.
I just went into the Port Settings for the TCP/IP option window and Raw settings port number is 9100.
I set the port to 3911, another icon for the printer appeared, I deleted the old printer, went back into Printer properties (new icon with "default") and the port selection stayed as the IP (not changed the WSD like before) So, that was an improvement.
I tried to do a test print, saw the doc in the print queue, everything looked fine and then the queue cleared 5-10 seconds later but nothing printed.
What do you think is wrong and what do you suggest I do based on the new information?
