If your HP DeskJet 3700 is reporting as “busy” and not printing, this issue is often related to stuck print jobs, communication errors, or outdated drivers. Here are some steps to help resolve it:

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

This clears temporary memory and resets the printer hardware.

Clear the Print Queue (Windows/macOS)

Sometimes a stuck print job can cause the printer to appear busy.

On Windows:

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Find Print Spooler, right-click and choose Stop.
  3. Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files.
  4. Go back to services.msc, right-click Print Spooler, and choose Start.
  5. Restart your computer and printer.

On macOS:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click your printer and choose Reset Printing System.
  3. Re-add your printer.

Use HP Smart App’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

This tool can automatically detect and fix issues like “printer busy,” offline status, and stuck jobs.

  • Download or open the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com.
  • Go to Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Reinstall the Printer Driver

Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause communication issues.

  • Uninstall the current printer driver from Control Panel > Programs.
  • Visit HP DeskJet 3700 Support Page
  • Download and install the Full Feature Software and Driver for your OS.

Check Network Connection

Ensure your printer and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network. You can print a Wireless Network Test Report by:

  • Press and hold the Cancel button for 3 seconds.
  • A report will print showing connection status.
