I have a 4500 all in one. I receive a photo in email and I can see it in the computer, but when I print, it is mostly blank and the very tiny part that prints is too faint to read. Text prints fine. What do I need to do? I’ve tried so many different things that haven’t worked. Thanks. This particular item is a photo of a store receipt taken on an I phone and sent to my email.

Hi @Evoche,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing an issue that might be related to the photo settings or the printer’s color ink capabilities, especially since text prints fine. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot this:
Check Ink Levels: Make sure the color ink cartridge isn’t low or dried out. Even if you’re printing a black-and-white photo, some printers mix colors for certain gray shades, so color ink may be needed.
Print Quality Settings: Go to the print settings when you open the photo in your email program or photo viewer:
- Select "Best" quality in the printer's settings to ensure a higher-quality print.
- Try printing in "Black & White" or "Grayscale" to see if the image improves (if the photo is in black and white).
Save and Print from a Different Program: Sometimes printing directly from an email can cause formatting issues. Try saving the image to your computer, opening it in a photo viewer (like Windows Photos or Preview on Mac), and printing from there.
Adjust Image Resolution: If the image appears faint, it could be because it has a low resolution or is compressed. Open the image, zoom in to see if it’s clear, and try printing at a smaller size to maintain clarity.
Run a Printhead Cleaning: Your Officejet 4500 has a printhead cleaning utility:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer, and select Printing Preferences or Properties.
- Look for Maintenance or Service and choose Printhead Cleaning.
- After cleaning, try printing the photo again.
Try Printing in Draft Mode: Some photos print better in "Draft" mode due to lower ink saturation, which can help if the image is faded.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
