I keep getting carriage jam error on my printer. I've gone through the step and there is nothing jammed anywhere in the printer I've checked everywhere. Is there any way to bypass this message or anything else I can try? I NEED HELP!!!!

@jennjenn79, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
A carriage jam error on the HP OfficeJet 4654 can be quite frustrating, especially if there are no visible obstructions. Since you've already checked for physical jams, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

Reset the Printer (Hard Reset)

  • With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall and then into the printer.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Manually Move the Carriage

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Unplug the printer from power.
  • Gently move the carriage left and right to see if it’s stuck.
  • If the carriage moves freely, close the door and turn the printer back on.

Check the Encoder Strip (Transparent Plastic Strip Behind Carriage)

  • Carefully clean the encoder strip (the thin plastic strip behind the carriage) with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  • If the strip is loose or dislodged, carefully reposition it.

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Remove the ink cartridges and check for any ink buildup or dust on the copper contacts.
  • Clean them with a lint-free cloth and distilled water.
  • Allow them to dry completely before reinserting.

Check for Sensor Malfunctions

Sometimes, a sensor failure can falsely trigger a jam message:

  • Ensure no small paper scraps are inside the printer.
  • Blow compressed air into the paper path and carriage area.
  • Power the printer back on and check.

Update the Firmware

  • Visit HP Support, search for your printer model, and download the latest firmware update.
  • Install the update and restart the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
