There's this error message on my printer: 55.0602

My macbook is Ventura 13.6.5.

My printer is MFP M281cdw .

How do I fix this?

I already turned off and unplugged it from my power surge protector, but still didn't work.

Thank you.

Hi @anakasik,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The 55.0602 error on the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw typically refers to a DC controller communication error, which is related to internal hardware or communication issues within the printer.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Power Cycle the Printer (Hard Reset)

Since you've already unplugged it from your surge protector, try this reset directly with the wall outlet:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the printer from the power outlet and wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer directly into the wall outlet, bypassing the surge protector.
  • Turn the printer back on.

Check for Firmware Updates

Sometimes, firmware issues can cause hardware errors. Update the firmware using these steps:

  • Download the latest firmware for your printer from the HP Support website.
  • Use your MacBook (Ventura 13.6.5) to install the firmware. Ensure the printer is connected via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Run the update by following the instructions provided in the update package.

Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

If the error persists, reset the printer to its factory settings:

  • On the printer control panel, navigate to Setup.
  • Go to Service, and then select Restore Defaults.
  • The printer will restart, restoring factory default settings.

Check for Mechanical or Internal Issues

  • Open the printer to check for any loose or disconnected cables, especially around the DC controller.
  • Inspect for paper jams or foreign objects inside the printer that could cause communication issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
