HP Envy 6555e All-in-One Printer

My 6555e all-in-one printer often is "unavailable" when I'm trying to print. When I do downstairs to look at it, it's basically frozen - the touchpad doesn't function and I can't turn it off using the power button on the back of the printer. So the only fix is to pull the power cord, then restart the printer. That usually works and I'm able to print again. But this happens too often for my satisfaction and it's really annoying when you have a print job and you have to go through several steps to make it happen. My take on this is that it shouldn't happen. My printer is under warrany and so I assume I could request warranty repairs, but is there a simpler solution to this problem?

Hi @Gary261

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It’s definitely frustrating when your printer becomes unresponsive like that, especially when you’re in the middle of something important.

Let’s explore a few things you can try before pursuing a warranty repair:

1. Check and Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can sometimes cause freezing issues. Updating the firmware can resolve bugs and improve printer stability.

HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

Click on the link below for instructions on how to update the firmware of your printer.

2. Ensure a Stable Power Supply

Since you're having to unplug the printer to reset it, ensure it’s connected to a surge protector or directly to a wall outlet.

Fluctuations in power might cause the printer to freeze. Try plugging it into a different outlet.

3. Reset the Printer Settings

Perform a factory reset:

Open the printer’s Settings menu.

Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Restore Defaults.

Select Reset to Factory Settings.

Keep in mind, this may erase any saved Wi-Fi settings, so you’ll need to reconnect the printer to your network afterward.

4. Use HP Smart App for Monitoring

Install the HP Smart app on your phone or computer. It might help diagnose the problem if the app logs errors or provides additional troubleshooting steps.

Additionally, you can try printing directly through the app to see if it bypasses the freezing issue.

5. Check Wi-Fi and Network Stability

If the printer is connected wirelessly, an unstable network connection can sometimes cause the printer to hang.

Ensure your printer and router are close enough to maintain a strong signal. Rebooting your router may help, too.

6. Clean and Inspect the Printer

Occasionally, internal sensors can malfunction due to dust or debris.

Power off the printer, open any accessible areas, and clean gently with a lint-free cloth. Check for any physical obstructions.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
