The power supply isn’t getting through to the printer properly.  Between one print job and the next my printer stopped working. There are illuminated blue lights on the control panel, but the screen itself is off. When I open the printer the cartridges don't move.  Here's what i've done.

1) I’ve checked the plug socket works and replaced the power cable. I used a different outlet.

2) I tried unplugging for 20 minutes and plugging back in and still nothing. I held the power button for 1 minute. No additional lights come on. No sounds are made.

3) I then plugged the printer back and in held the power button for 1 minute

4) I used an ethernet cable to connect my computer to the printer. Printer was not recognized.

5) I used a usb cable to connect my computer to the printer. Printer was not recognized.

6) I inspected the printer's power port. Looks normal i.e. nothing is obstructing connection.

7) Looked for jammed paper throughout printer.

I hate to throw this in the landfill. Is there anything else I can do?  I'm a special ed teacher and hate to spend the money.

@Morey2025_5, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding No Power Issues on HP OfficeJet 7740!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When your HP OfficeJet 7740 printer is showing blue lights but the screen is off and the cartridges don't move, it indicates that power is not getting through properly. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Steps to Follow:

Check Power Source:

  • Ensure the power outlet is functioning. You can test it by plugging in a different device to see if it powers up.
  • Try using a different power outlet that's confirmed to be working.

Inspect Power Cable and Adapter:

  • Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the printer and the power source.
  • Inspect the power cable and adapter for any visible signs of damage. If available, try using a different HP-compatible power cable and adapter.

Resetting the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer’s power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet first, then connect it to the printer.
  • Press the power button to turn on the printer.

Verify Electrical Contact:

  • Sometimes the power socket on the printer might not make proper contact with the power cable. Ensure that the connection is firm and secure.

Perform Hard Reset:

  • While the printer is plugged in, disconnect all other cables and press the power button for about 30 seconds.
  • Release the button and then reconnect the cables. Try to power on the printer.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
