Hi @BellisHardware,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how urgent and frustrating it is when your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 shows a “Problem with the supply system” error even after replacing the cartridge. Let’s walk through the steps to resolve this.

What This Error Means

The “Supply System Problem” usually indicates:

  • A cartridge communication failure
  • Clogged or blocked cartridge vents
  • A printhead issue
  • Or a firmware/software glitch

HP Recommended Fixes

1. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the Power button
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in and turn it on

This clears temporary memory and resets the ink system.

2. Clean Cartridge Vents

  • Remove all cartridges
  • Check the vent area (top of the cartridge) for dried ink or adhesive
  • Use a pin or paperclip to gently clear any blockage
  • Reinsert cartridges firmly into their color-coded slots

⚠️ Don’t leave cartridges outside the printer for more than 30 minutes.

3. Try a New Set of Genuine HP Cartridges

Even if you already replaced one, try:

  • A completely new set of genuine HP 952/953/954/955 cartridges
  • Avoid third-party or refilled cartridges for this test.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
