Hi @moonmaiden67,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP ENVY Photo 7855 won’t turn off and is showing a code or stuck screen. Here’s what you can try to fix the issue:

1. Perform a Power Reset

This is HP’s first recommended step:

  1. While the printer is still on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  6. Try pressing the power button to turn it off or on.

This helps clear any firmware lockups or power glitches

2. Check the Power Button

  • Make sure the power button isn’t stuck or unresponsive.
  • Press it gently and hold for 5–10 seconds to see if it responds.

 3. Look Up the Error Code

If the printer is displaying a specific code, please share it here. HP uses these codes to identify:

  • Firmware issues
  • Hardware failures
  • Ink system problems

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you so much for the advice. I had the cord in the wall and the cable tech took it out and  put it in the surge protector.  There are so many cords I don't know which one it is. The code is 00829c98. I was told when I bought the printer I might get 4 years and that's what it was. Very sad they make things knowing they won't last. Went to repair shop. They said hardware problem. So did Staples.  So I will unplug and see what happens. I'm not going to reset because then I have to download software and I'm technically challenged.😵💫

Hi @moonmaiden67,

Understandable! 😄 Unplugging and giving it a little break is often the tech version of a deep breath. Try and keep us updated.

If you need any help, please do keep us posted

Do you know what the code means 00829c98? Thank you. I get so nervous with all the wires. Staples told me printers like this last 4 years. I will try to find the cord. I don't see the plug in, just other ones because tech took it out of wall and put in surge protector.

Thank you for trying to help me.

Hi @moonmaiden67,

The error code 00829c98 on your HP ENVY Photo 7855 indicates a hardware issue, likely related to the printer's internal components or firmware. Several factors can cause this error, including problems with the ink system, scanner, or a burned-out motor or lamp.

As for the cord and plug-in—yes, it’s very common to feel uneasy when wires are moved around. Since the tech moved your printer’s power plug into a surge protector, try looking for a cord that’s coming out of the back of the printer and tracing it to the surge protector. The plug will likely look like a standard two- or three-prong cord (it may resemble the kind used for many home electronics). If you're not seeing it, check to see if any of the unplugged cords near the surge protector are loose and match the printer’s power port.

Staples is right in saying that printers like this often last around 4 years, but many people get much more time out of them with a little care.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

You are so kind and understanding. When I check it out I'll let you know what cords are plugged in. There is a phone cord and something that looks like a blue earthlink or whatever it is. I'm going to wait until Saturday and hope to be kind. I got almost 5 yrs out of it. I'm thinking of getting the next model up 7955e. Since they don't last long, no sense in doing a lot of research.  I was very happy with my 7855. Vikram you are the great!

This is a wonderful community.
