HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 All-in-One Printer

Initially when attempting to print, it went into que but the interface of the printer just kept scrolling and scrolling and could hear the cartridges moving back and forth.   Nothing happened.   Once opened, the cartridges seem they want to move but stay far right.   UPDATE.  Called a carriage jam

Hi @jwnebraska,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 is experiencing a carriage jam, which can occur if something obstructs the movement of the ink cartridge carriage. Here's how you can try to resolve it.

Steps to Fix a Carriage Jam:

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer and then unplug it from the power source. Wait for at least 30 seconds before proceeding.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Open the printer's front access door.
  • Look for any paper, small objects, or debris that could be blocking the carriage.
  • If you find any foreign objects or pieces of paper, carefully remove them.

Manually Move the Carriage:

  • With the printer turned off and unplugged, gently try to move the carriage to the left and right by hand. It should move smoothly. If it is stuck, check for any further obstructions or anything that could be causing the jam.

Clean the Carriage Path:

  • Dust or paper fragments may be lodged in the path of the carriage. Use a lint-free cloth to clean the area around the carriage rails and gears.

Check the Cartridges:

  • Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any damage or improper seating.
  • Make sure the cartridges are properly seated before reinstalling them.

Plug the Printer Back In:

  • Once you’ve cleared any obstructions and checked the carriage, close the printer, reconnect the power, and turn it back on.

Run a Printer Reset:

  • After turning the printer on, try a reset:
    • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while it's on.
    • Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
    • Wait 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cable back into the wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.
    • Turn on the printer and attempt to print again.

If the Issue Persists:

  • Update Printer Firmware: Outdated firmware may cause communication or functionality issues, so check for firmware updates using the HP Smart app or on HP's support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
