@Jimmimacc, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Account or Cartridge Error on HP Instant Ink-Compatible Printers!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The "Account or Cartridge Error" often indicates issues related to HP Instant Ink enrollment or cartridge recognition. Here are several steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Verify Printer Enrollment

Ensure that your printer is correctly enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program. If it is not enrolled, Instant Ink cartridges will not function, and you will need to either enroll your printer or purchase original HP cartridges.

2. Update Printer Firmware

Keeping your printer’s firmware up to date can solve many issues. To update the firmware, please refer to Update the firmware on an HP printer.

3. Reset the Printer

Performing a reset can help clear errors:

  • If your printer has a removable battery, remove it.
  • Press the power button to turn off the printer. If it does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and then connect it to the printer.
  • Power on the printer to complete the reset.

4. Verify Internet Connection

HP Instant Ink requires an active internet connection. Ensure your printer is connected and the Web Services are turned on. You can find more information on enabling Web Services by visiting HP Printers - Turn On Web Services.

5. Check Cartridge Installation

Ensure the cartridges are correctly installed. They should be seated firmly in their slots, with the label matching the corresponding label on the carriage.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

The fix for this translated into increasing page subscription to 300 pp month.  I see this as a scam by hp to gain revenue.  I want my current printer replaced under the existing warranty
