I have a 8610 printer which has a fault I cannot rectify.

The print head is stuck fast , over to the of the right side of the  printer and when the door is opened it will not move over to the left to allow cartridge change.

I have tried everything but it will not move.

Plus when turning the unit on, the blue flash line under the logo on the program  information screen only flashes across so far then stops, hols for several seconds and then the screen flashes cartridge damaged,  replace.

But when I open the door, the printhead is stuck over to the right and doesn't move at all no matter what.

Any ideas please.....

Other than thus the printer is mint.

Hi @Garry49

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP 8610 printer is experiencing a mechanical issue with the print head, and the error messages indicate that it might be related to the cartridges or the print head itself. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes reset the internal mechanisms.

Check for Obstructions:

  • Open the printer cover and carefully inspect for any paper jams or foreign objects that might be blocking the print head.
  • Make sure there are no torn pieces of paper stuck inside.

Manually Move the Print Head:

  • Gently try to move the print head back to the center. Be cautious, as applying too much force could damage the printer. If it’s stuck, do not force it.

Inspect Cartridges:

  • Remove the cartridges if possible. Check for any signs of damage or leaks. Clean the gold contact points on the cartridges and the print head with a lint-free cloth.

Reset the Print Head:

  • If you can get the print head to move even slightly, try to reset it. Some printers have a reset button or a procedure you can follow to reset the print head.

Firmware Update:

  • If you can access the printer settings, check for any available firmware updates. Sometimes, issues can be resolved through software updates.

Factory Reset:

  • If none of the above works, consider performing a factory reset. Refer to the printer manual for the specific steps to reset it to factory settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
