@txpatti, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP672 cartridge.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

If your printer is displaying a message indicating that the new HP 672 cartridges are not communicating with the printer, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

  1. Reinstall the Cartridges:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
    • Open the printer's access door and remove the cartridges.
    • Inspect them to ensure there is no protective tape left on the nozzles or copper electrical contacts.
    • Reinsert the cartridges and make sure they are seated properly.
  2. Clean Cartridge Contacts:

    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges make contact.
    • Allow them to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.
  3. Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, new cartridges require a firmware update to be recognized correctly.
  4. Reset the Printer:

    • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
    • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    • Wait 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then reconnect to the printer.
  5. Verify Cartridge Authenticity:

    • Ensure that your cartridges are genuine HP products. Non-HP or refurbished cartridges might not have the same compatibility.
  6. Use HP Smart App:

    • Use the HP Smart app to perform a diagnostic check. Sometimes, the app can provide more detailed insights into what might be causing the communication issue.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
