9020 Series printer will not print 5x7 photos

HP Recommended
HP OfficeJet Pro 9025
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I am unable to print 5x7 photos on my OfficeJet Pro 9025. Printer either gives a series of smudges, or a 3x5 image with smudges. Settings on printer and Photo app all set to 5x7 borderless. Paper loaded correctly. Photo printing in general is very tricky but, after a ot of work, 4x6 photos eventually print fine. Any troubleshooting recommendations? Any recommendations for an easy-to-use photo printer?

I've had good results with HP Advanced Photo Paper - it is Instant Dry.

Drop back to no more than "Normal" quality print (as opposed to Best).

Check to make sure the printer is able to do its best work...

If you have not done so, consider updating the Printer Firmware.

Always read all the sections in preparation - for example, open and read section(s) Fixes / Description.

Install and try the Full Feature Software.

If you have not done so, download-save-install the Full Feature Software for the printer

HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software

  • Download-and-Save the printer software (Full Feature Software / HP Smart / Easy Start)
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Reminder:  If using Easy Start, select the Full Driver

About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full" driver set (as opposed to the basic driver).

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Full driver provides print and scan functions (even if HP Smart proves to be stubborn).

Example - Printing Preferences - Photo Print - Borderless - 5x7"

Reminder >> Borderless and Sizes are Printer Model Dependent!
