[HP LASERJET MFP M140W] Today I have the error in the subject, with blinking exclamation light on the printer. I did reset the printer without result. I did discover that "HP Print and Scan Doctor is no longer supported and should be removed due to potential security risks." so I have removed it from my computer, and had already downloaded some time ago, HP Smart. It tells me to check my account but I don't see anything anywhere. Software and drivers are up to date on the printer and computer (as much as they can be).  What else can be the issue here?

@J_D6, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The blinking exclamation light on your HP LaserJet MFP M140w generally indicates an error that needs attention. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check for Specific Error Messages:

  • Use the HP app to look for specific error messages or notifications that might appear when you connect your printer to your computer or mobile device.

Clear Paper Jams:

  • Ensure there's no paper jam in the input areas or anywhere inside the printer. Turn off the printer and carefully remove any stuck paper.

Check Ink/Toner Levels:

  • Ensure your toner cartridge is properly installed and has adequate toner. The blinking exclamation could be a warning for low or depleted toner.

Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is connected properly, whether it's via USB or Wi-Fi, and make sure there are no connection issues.

Firmware Update:

  • Even though you mentioned that updates are up to date, double-check if there's a firmware update available to address the issue, as it might help.

Reset the Printer:

  • Since you've already reset the printer once, try performing a cold reset if possible (consult the user manual to ensure the correct process).

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi, sorry for the long pause. Error message was an exclamation mark blinking; there were no paper jams, ink/toner level is ok, printer connection is ok, firmware up to date, and printer was reset.

seems like the issue was that I am running W10 and needed to remove the HP Dr software as it is no longer supported. My computer also had a small update, and it seems to have fixed the problem.

However, I know there will be more issues in the future due to my computer being too old to update to W11, which is fine because I was planning to replace it anyway.
