HP DeskJet 2132 All-in-One Printer

HP did an app update and it does not recognize my printer (HP DeskJet 2132 All-in-One printer/scanner), and I've tried everything recommended and more, many times, and it still does not show up. I can print from my computer (Windows 11) without using the app, but scanning is no longer available with this new app. I went to the 123.hp.com site, downloaded the easy start app and it did recognize my computer, but then it changed over to the new app, and once again no printer recognized via the app, and no scanning.  Previous HP app worked.   Appreciate any help.

If the HP app update has caused your printer/scanner to become unrecognized and you're experiencing issues with scanning, here are several steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify Printer and Scanner Connection

Check Physical Connections:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network. For USB connections, make sure the cable is securely plugged in. For network connections, check if the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Check Printer Settings and Status

Printer Status:

  • Ensure that the printer is online and not in an error state. Check the printer's display for any error messages.

Default Printer:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Ensure your HP DeskJet 2132 is set as the default printer.

3. Reinstall the HP Software

Uninstall Existing HP Software:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
  • Find and uninstall the HP Smart app and any other HP software.

Download and Install the Latest Software:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for your HP DeskJet 2132.
  • Download and install the latest drivers and software specifically for your printer model.

4. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
    • Visit the HP Print and Scan Doctor page.
    • Download and run the tool. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix issues with printing and scanning.

5. Check for Windows Updates

  1. Update Windows:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    • Check for updates and install any available updates.

6. Configure Scanner Settings Manually

Access Scanner Settings:

  • Open the Control Panel.
  • Go to Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP DeskJet 2132 and select Properties or Scanner Properties.

Test Scanner:

  • If available, use the Scan tab to try and scan a document directly from the Devices and Printers window.

7. Try a Different App

Use Windows Built-In Scanning App:

  • Open the Windows Scan app (available in the Microsoft Store if not already installed).
  • Try to scan using this app to check if the issue is with the HP Smart app.

Use an Alternative Scanning Software:

  • Consider using third-party scanning software that is compatible with your printer.
