Microsoft Windows 11

I have the printer HP Officejet Pro 8610. Until now I have been using the ink catridges recommended by the manufacturer and have had no problems. About a month ago I replaced the inks with instant ink catridges. The printer had a problem yesterday (does not print) and specifically it gave me the message "Missing or Failed Printheads". I reinstall the printheads as a solution but the problem still exists. Is the problem due to the Printheads because it needs replacement or is it the ink catridges because they are not compatible with my printer?

Thanks in advance

Hi @mika56,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

HP Instant Ink cartridges should be compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 as long as the cartridges were obtained through the Instant Ink program, which ensures they match your printer model. However, the "Missing or Failed Printhead" error generally indicates an issue with the printhead itself rather than the ink cartridges. Here’s what you can try.

  • Clean the Printhead: Sometimes, ink buildup or dried ink can cause this error. You can run a printhead cleaning cycle from the printer’s settings menu or manually clean it using a lint-free cloth and distilled water (avoid alcohol or other solvents).
  • Remove and Reinstall Cartridges: Ensure the cartridges are seated correctly. Remove them, clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and printhead, then reinstall them securely.
  • Reset the Printer: Unplug the printer for about a minute, then plug it back in. This can sometimes clear temporary glitches.
  • Update Firmware: Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date, as HP periodically releases updates to improve functionality with Instant Ink cartridges.
  • Test with Standard Cartridges (if available): If you have any standard HP cartridges, you might test them to confirm if the issue persists. If the error remains, it's more likely due to the printhead rather than the cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
