HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Tried sceond new magenta catridge; printer starter and after 30 seconds it ends up with an error "At least minimum one catridge is devective or fault". Did a reset; cleaned every details of catridge and printers; tried a new firmware update (that does not work, Printer enabled) and waited more than one hour for HP support:(

Last I´ve done: Remove all catridges, close the door, open it and put black ink back. close the door. repeat with all catridges. In the end the display showed me all catridges are ok. 10 seconds later : "At least one catridge....." **bleep**! There is no problem, but it won´t work.

Did any one have an idea to solve that problem withou buying a new printer?

Hi @Markus1306,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus, where it keeps showing an error regarding a defective cartridge even after trying multiple troubleshooting steps. Here are some additional suggestions you can try to resolve this issue.

Check the Cartridge Contacts

Sometimes, even if the cartridge is new, the contacts may not be making a proper connection. To clean the cartridge contacts:

  • Power off the printer and remove all cartridges.
  • Use a soft cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with water to gently clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridge and inside the printer where the cartridge connects.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

Check for Firmware or Software Issues

While you mentioned you tried a firmware update, it might help to try again, especially if the printer firmware was partially updated or if there is a new release. Sometimes, a firmware issue can cause these types of errors. You can download the latest firmware directly from HP's support page.

Perform a Printer Reset

If you haven’t already, try performing a semi-full reset on the printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and try printing again.

Use the Printer’s Diagnostic Tool

HP printers often have built-in diagnostic tools that may help resolve cartridge issues. These tools can sometimes clear miscommunications between the printer and cartridges. You can access this through the printer’s control panel, or use HP's HP Print and Scan Doctor tool (downloadable from HP's support website) to troubleshoot the issue.

Verify Cartridge Compatibility

Make sure that the cartridge you're using is compatible with your printer model. Even though you're using a new magenta cartridge, it's possible that it's either defective or incompatible.

Check for Physical Obstructions

Make sure there are no obstructions or debris inside the cartridge area that could be causing the printer to not detect the cartridges properly.

Try Printing with One Cartridge at a Time

Try printing with only one cartridge installed at a time (one in each slot). This will help determine if a specific cartridge slot or cartridge is causing the issue.

Try a Soft Reset (Restore Factory Settings)

If nothing else works, you could attempt to reset the printer to its factory defaults:

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
