The HP OfficeJet 5740 showing a blue screen with error code B808E142 typically indicates a firmware or hardware issue. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

 

1. Perform a Power Drain

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Disconnect all cables, including USB and network connections.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge residual power.
  4. Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  5. Turn it back on and check if the error persists.

2. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Visit HP’s support page and download the latest firmware update.
  2. Install the update using HP Smart or the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  3. Restart the printer after the update.

3. Perform a Factory Reset

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Settings → Restore Defaults.
  2. Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.
  3. Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi and test printing.
