I had got this printer from a family member and when they give it to me, it works and everything, but it won’t let me print anything. It just keeps let me be up in the update phase where it says updating as in process, but then it just doesn’t do anything. It won’t let me print anything. It has ink. It has everything and it’s an HPenvy5530

Hi @Unknownlllll

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, and I’m really sorry you’re stuck in this endless update loop—it must feel like the printer’s holding everything hostage when all you want is a simple printout.

Let’s walk through a few steps to help break it free and get it printing again.

1. Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.
  • This clears temporary memory and may stop the update loop.

2. Check for Firmware Update via HP App

  • Download and install the HP App from the Microsoft Store:
    HP App – Microsoft Store
  • Open the app and add your HP ENVY 5530.
  • Go to Settings or Printer Maintenance and check for firmware updates.
  • If an update is pending, allow it to complete through the app interface.

3. Use HP Diagnose & Fix Tool (Windows)

This tool is designed to resolve printing, scanning, and update-related issues on HP printers.

Once installed:

  • Open the tool and select your HP ENVY 5530.
  • Let it scan for issues and follow the on-screen instructions to resolve them.

4. Reinstall the Full Feature Software

  • Visit the official support page:
HP ENVY 5530 – Software and Drivers
  • Select Windows 11 and download the Full Feature Software and Drivers.
  • Install it and restart your computer and printer.

5. Reset the Printer via Control Panel

If the printer’s touchscreen is responsive:

  • Tap Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  • This will reset the printer’s internal settings and may clear the update phase.

Let me know how far you get with these steps. If the printer still won’t exit the update screen, I can help you explore a manual firmware recovery or alternate setup method. We’ll get it back to printing in no time.
