@JosephGomez, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding damaged cartridge message!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer reports a damaged black ink cartridge, especially when it's a new and authentic HP cartridge. Let's try some troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:

1. Remove & Reinsert the Cartridge:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it.
  • Open the printer cover and remove the black ink cartridge.
  • Check for any protective tape on the cartridge’s nozzle (if present, remove it).
  • Reinsert the cartridge securely and ensure it clicks into place.
  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and check if the error persists.

2. Clean the Cartridge & Printer Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and remove the cartridge again.
  • Gently wipe the gold-colored contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let it dry for a few minutes, then reinsert the cartridge.

3. Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer from power while it’s ON.
  • Wait 60 seconds and plug it back in.
  • Turn on the printer and check if the issue is resolved.

4. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause cartridge recognition issues.
  • Visit HP official website, search for your printer model, and check for any available firmware updates.

If the issue still persists, I’d love to assist you further. Could you please provide the following details?

  • Printer model (e.g., HP DeskJet, HP OfficeJet, etc.)
  • Operating system (Windows, macOS, etc.)
  • Error message displayed on the screen
  • Steps you've already tried

Let me know, and we’ll get this sorted! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
