Printer will not print in black, only color.  I have changed the cartridge, just to be sure it wasn't a faulty one, but it has the same issue. Ran all the diagnostic tests, and the black just does not print.

If your printer isn’t printing in black despite replacing the cartridge and running diagnostic tests, try these steps:

 

  • Check Printhead: Remove and inspect the printhead for any visible damage or clogs. Clean it gently with a soft, lint-free cloth and distilled water if necessary.
  • Perform Printhead Alignment: Use the printer’s menu or HP Smart app to run a printhead alignment. This can correct issues with print quality.
  • Clean Printhead Contacts: Check the contacts on both the printhead and the cartridge for any ink build-up or residue. Clean them carefully with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Run Deep Cleaning Cycle: Use the printer's software or control panel to run a deep cleaning cycle for the printhead. This can help clear blockages in the nozzles.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check for and install any available firmware updates from the HP support website. Firmware updates can resolve bugs affecting print quality.
  • Check Ink Settings: Ensure that the printer settings are configured to use the black ink. Sometimes settings might default to only using color ink.
