Welcome to the club!  I'm on a mission today to reply to as many people with this problem as I can.  HP support ran me through the troubleshooting steps and then suggested buying a new printer.  Here is a YouTube video that may help:

**If your printer is under warranty, start with HP support as I'm not sure if this would void it or not, but it's not invasive.

Here are the steps I took in case you don't want to watch the video.

The video says you have about 5 minutes before the printer sends the carriage back to maintenance position, so watch your fingers.  Here are the steps:

  1. Remove the ink cartridges
  2. slide the printhead all the way to the left
  3. place a slightly damp paper towel underneath where the printhead moves, press down firmly to get it flush so the head can pass over it.  (I struggled with this, and ended up just holding the corner of it until I could get the head over it)
  4. manually slide the printhead back and forth several times.  I had to use 2 paper towels and refolded both because the black ink covered them quickly.
  5. replace the ink cartridges.
  6. my step 6. run the clean print-head cycle a few times. I still had some fading/streaking so I think I did the 3 cleaning cycles twice before I was satisfied. Black in and color prints look perfect again

There is also a video that suggests contact cleaner spray for electronics. I don't have any and didn't try it, but the wet paper towel worked.

Goodluck! Hope it works
