HI @rossgrp,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer isn’t printing in black despite replacing the cartridge and running diagnostic tests, try these steps:
- Check Printhead: Remove and inspect the printhead for any visible damage or clogs. Clean it gently with a soft, lint-free cloth and distilled water if necessary.
- Perform Printhead Alignment: Use the printer’s menu or HP Smart app to run a printhead alignment. This can correct issues with print quality.
- Clean Printhead Contacts: Check the contacts on both the printhead and the cartridge for any ink build-up or residue. Clean them carefully with a soft, dry cloth.
- Run Deep Cleaning Cycle: Use the printer's software or control panel to run a deep cleaning cycle for the printhead. This can help clear blockages in the nozzles.
- Update Printer Firmware: Check for and install any available firmware updates from the HP support website. Firmware updates can resolve bugs affecting print quality.
- Check Ink Settings: Ensure that the printer settings are configured to use the black ink. Sometimes settings might default to only using color ink.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
