Hi @ielane
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how frustrating it is to see blurred text even though the ink levels look fine and you’ve already run multiple cleaning cycles. You’ve been very thorough, and that effort deserves appreciation. Blurred or smudged letters usually point to issues with ink delivery, paper handling, or alignment rather than low ink.
Steps to improve text sharpness
1. Check paper type and quality
- Use fresh, plain paper that meets the printer’s specifications.
- Avoid damp, curled, or glossy paper when printing text.
- Make sure the paper guides in the tray are snug against the stack.
2. Align the printhead
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Align Printhead.
- Follow the prompts and print the alignment page.
- Misalignment often causes blurred or fuzzy letters.
3. Run a deeper cleaning cycle
- Even after standard cleaning, run the Clean Printhead option again.
- If available, select the “Second‑level” or “Advanced” cleaning.
- Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page to confirm improvement.
4. Inspect cartridges physically
- Remove the cartridges and check for dried ink or smudges around the nozzles.
- Gently wipe with a lint‑free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
- Reinsert firmly until they click into place.
5. Update printer firmware
- Visit the official HP support page for your model:
HP Printer Drivers and Software - Download and install the latest firmware update.
- Firmware updates often improve ink flow and printhead calibration.
6. Check print settings
- In the HP App or Windows print dialog, ensure “Draft” mode is not selected.
- Choose Best Quality or Normal for sharper text.
- Confirm “Print in Grayscale” is unchecked if you’re using color cartridges.
If the issue continues
- Persistent blurring after cleaning and alignment may indicate the printhead is worn or clogged beyond recovery.
- In that case, replacing the printhead or servicing the printer may be necessary.
You’ve already taken the right steps. The most effective next action is to align the printhead and check the paper type, as those are the most common causes of blurred text when ink levels are good.
