@Rsjeanty, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A blank panel display on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw, especially if it's not showing up on your computer either, typically points to a power issue, firmware crash, or internal hardware fault. Let's go through a set of steps to isolate and potentially fix the problem.

Basic Power Reset (Hard Reset)

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Disconnect ALL cables (power, USB, Ethernet, etc.).
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cable directly into a wall socket (not a surge protector or UPS).
  • Turn the printer back on and observe the control panel.

Display Still Blank? Try a Forced Firmware Recovery

If the display is blank and nothing happens:

  • Download the latest firmware for your printer from the HP M283fdw support page.
  • Use the Firmware Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn the printer off.
    2. While holding the Cancel (X) and Copy (Black) buttons, turn the printer on.
    3. Continue holding the buttons until the printer enters boot mode (may take ~20 seconds).
    4. Connect the printer via USB to a PC and run the downloaded firmware file.

️ This may restore your printer if the firmware was corrupted

Check for Connectivity

If the display doesn't come back, try:

  • HP Smart app or Printer Assistant on your PC – see if it detects the printer.
  • Check in Device Manager > Printers or Printers & Scanners in Windows Settings.
  • Try USB and network connections (one at a time).

Hardware Diagnostic

If:

  • The printer doesn't turn on or shows a black/blank screen.
  • No sound/movement from internal parts during boot.

It may be a power supply board issue or control panel failure

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
