Hi @omega570,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand how frustrating it is to install two new HP 67 ink cartridges and still see a solid or blinking orange light on your printer. You've already done a great job trying the basic troubleshooting steps. Let’s go a bit deeper to resolve this.
Recommended Steps to Fix the Issue
1. Check Cartridge Installation
- Open the cartridge access door.
- Remove both cartridges.
- Reinsert them firmly until they click into place.
- Close the door and wait for the printer to initialize.
2. Clean the Cartridge Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the cartridges.
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean:
- The gold contacts on the cartridges
- The contacts inside the printer
- Let everything dry for 10 minutes.
- Reinsert the cartridges and power the printer back on.
3. Check for Protective Tape
- Make sure the orange plastic tape on the cartridge nozzles has been completely removed.
- Even a small piece left behind can cause recognition errors.
4. Use Genuine HP Cartridges
- Confirm that both cartridges are genuine HP 67 or 67XL.
- If you’re enrolled in HP Instant Ink, make sure you’re using Instant Ink cartridges — regular retail cartridges won’t work in that case.
5. Update Printer Firmware
- Open the HP app.
- Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Tools > Printer Updates.
- Install any available updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
