Hi @Petemann,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Power Reset:
- Unplug the printer's power cord from the wall outlet and the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet first, and then into the printer.
- Turn the printer on.
Check Cartridge Installation:
- Ensure that the cartridges are properly installed.
- Remove and reinsert the cartridges to make sure they are seated correctly.
Inspect for Jammed Paper or Obstructions:
- Check inside the printer for any paper jams or foreign objects that may be causing the error.
- Remove any visible paper or obstructions carefully, avoiding any damage to the components.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. You can do this via the HP Smart app or by downloading the latest firmware from the HP website.
Reset the Printer:
- Perform a factory reset from the printer’s menu if accessible. This can sometimes resolve errors by returning the printer to its default settings.
- If you can't access the menu due to the error, this option may not be possible.
I hope this helps.

Hi @Petemann,
Thank you for the response.
Yes, new cartridges might help, especially if:
The current cartridges are refilled/third-party
There was a power surge or low ink warning just before the crash
One cartridge is defective or short-circuiting internally
Try replacing just one cartridge at a time, starting with black. See if anything changes after inserting each one.
Firmware Recovery via USB (if screen is stuck)
If the printer is stuck on that error and you can't access any menus, we may need to:
Download the firmware update file from HP’s support site.
Connect the printer via USB to a computer.
Use the HP Firmware Updater Tool (macOS or Windows) to force a firmware reinstall.
I hope this helps.
