I have also tried following the hard reset instructions I've seen. here, but after I plug my printer back in and power it up, it goes back to the blue error 00829C98 screen after a few seconds, so I can't get to the settings or anything else. If I have something in my printer queue it will print 1 page after it reboots before goes blue so it seems like it could be fixed if I knew how. My printer is no longer under warranty, but I am hoping someone can help me save it! Thanks!!

Hi @Buster-2007,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error code "00829C98" you mentioned does not appear to be a standard error code associated with the HP ENVY Photo 7858 printer. However, the blue screen error you're encountering might be a general Windows error rather than a printer-specific issue.
To address this problem, you can try the following troubleshooting steps.
- Restart your computer: A simple restart can often resolve temporary software glitches or conflicts.
- Update printer drivers: Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your ENVY Photo 7858 printer. Install the updated drivers and see if the issue persists.
- Check for Windows updates: Ensure that your operating system is up to date. Go to the Windows Update settings and install any available updates.
- Run a malware scan: Perform a thorough scan of your computer using reliable antivirus software to check for any malware or viruses that may be causing the issue.
- Uninstall and reinstall printer software: Remove the existing printer software from your computer, restart the system, and then reinstall the printer drivers and software.
- Disconnect and reconnect the printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord, and remove any USB cables. Wait for a few minutes, then reconnect the power cord and USB cables. Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.
- Perform a system restore: If the issue started recently, you can try restoring your computer to a previous working state using the System Restore feature. This can help undo any recent changes that might have triggered the error.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
