Hi @Tomrsj

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That blue screen code B8667EEC on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 usually signals a firmware or hardware fault that’s preventing the printer from initializing properly.

Let’s try a few targeted steps to revive it:

Power Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Cartridge or Paper Issues

  • Open all access doors and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Inspect for any paper jams or debris.
  • Reseat the cartridges carefully and close all doors securely.

Update Firmware via USB (if accessible)

If the printer turns on briefly before showing the error:

If the Screen Is Frozen

If the printer is stuck and unresponsive:

  • Try holding the Power + Cancel + Wireless buttons together for 10 seconds.
  • This may force a soft reset.

Inspect and Re-seat Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the printer and carefully remove the ink cartridges.
  • Re-seat them properly to ensure proper contact and operation.
  • Ensure no debris or obstructions are affecting the cartridge installation.

Check Printer Connections:

  • Ensure all cables (power, network, USB) are securely connected.
  • Try using a different USB cable or port if connected to a computer.

Let me know if the screen shows anything else or if the printer makes any sounds during startup — that can help narrow it down further. You're doing everything right by chasing down answers, and I’ll stick with you until we crack it.

Thanks Hawks_Eye, I simply unplugged the printer from the mains, then re-plugged it, and all was OK!

Never happened before during 10 or so years of daily use.

You are very Welcome!

That’s a classic fix — simple, effective, and oddly satisfying when it works! That blue screen code B8667EEC doesn’t seem to be widely documented, but based on similar cases, it likely points to a temporary firmware or hardware hiccup. Power cycling clears out volatile memory and resets internal states, which can resolve transient errors like this.

Given your 10-year streak of smooth sailing, it’s probably just a one-off. But if it ever recurs, you might want to:

  • Check for any pending firmware updates via HP’s support page for the 8600 series
  • Inspect the power source for fluctuations or surges
  • Run a full printer diagnostic from HP’s tools if it starts acting up again

Still, hats off to your trusty 8600 — that’s some serious longevity.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. We're here to help!

Thanks again for your confirmation, and we wish you an amazing day ahead! 😊
