Hi @TonyW67

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2810e is having trouble recognizing the cartridges and completing the ink alignment process.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges that are compatible with the DeskJet 2810e. Non-HP or incompatible cartridges may not be recognized by the printer.

2. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Open the printer's cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
  • Inspect the cartridges for any protective tape or packaging that might still be attached. Remove it if present.
  • Reinsert the cartridges securely, ensuring they click into place.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds, then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest firmware for your printer. Firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues and improve performance.

6. Run the Alignment Process Again

  • Load clean white paper into the input tray.
  • Access the printer's control panel or the HP Smart App and navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Align Printhead.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the alignment process.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
