Thanks, Garp,

All helpful, but I had done all of these....printer off/on/unplug, etc.....firmware all up to date/////software up yo date....factory resets, eyc.

Still show color cartridges depleted but now shows black full, but won't print "Black Only".

thanks again,

Hi @pfflyer9658,

Thank you for the response

Try these steps:

Check Cartridge Type, Are They Genuine HP?

HP printers with dynamic security will reject third-party or refilled cartridges even if they’re brand new.
Make sure:

The cartridges are HP-branded (e.g., HP 952, HP 910, HP 962 etc., depending on your printer model).

There’s no damage or dirt on the copper/gold contact chips (wipe gently with a lint-free cloth).

Reset Cartridge Memory

Sometimes the printer remembers the “empty” status from the old cartridge.

Try this:

Remove all ink cartridges.

Power off the printer and unplug it for 2 minutes.

While it's off, gently clean the cartridge chip contacts with a microfiber cloth.

Plug the printer back in and turn it on without inserting cartridges.

Wait for the prompt that says cartridges are missing.

Now insert one cartridge at a time, starting with black.

Wait 30 seconds between each.

Force Black-Only Printing (Even if Color Shows Empty)

If your printer won’t print in black only, go into settings and try:

On your PC: Control Panel > Devices and Printers

Right-click your printer > Printing Preferences

Under Color Options, choose:

“Print in Grayscale”

“Black Ink Only” or “Use Black Cartridge Only”

Sometimes this bypasses the need for color ink, but only works if your model supports it.

I hope this helps.
