@ascending, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP 8139e!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP printer is not recognizing the 4x6 photo paper properly. Here are a few troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Check Paper Size Settings

  • On your computer, go to Printer Properties or Print Settings before printing.
  • Ensure that the selected paper size is 4x6 inches instead of 8.5x11.

Load Paper Correctly

  • Make sure the 4x6 photo paper is inserted properly into the correct tray.
  • Adjust the paper guides so they fit snugly against the paper without bending it.

Select the Correct Paper Type

  • In the print settings, change the paper type to Photo Paper instead of regular paper.

Check the Paper Source

  • If your printer has multiple paper trays, ensure it is set to pull from the correct tray that holds the 4x6 paper.

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and restart.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Visit HP official website and download the latest drivers for your model.

Manually Feed the Paper (if applicable)

  • Some printers require manual feeding for smaller photo paper sizes.

If the issue persists, try running the printer’s diagnostic tool via the HP Smart app or HP Print and Scan Doctor. Let me know if you need more help! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
