Hi @Walt4649,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP LaserJet MFP M426fdw printer is showing a certificate expired message when you try to update the driver to version 10.4. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Confirm operating system version

Make sure you are downloading the driver that matches your exact Windows or macOS version.

Using the wrong package can trigger certificate errors.

Download directly from HP’s support site

Go to HP’s official support page for the M426fdw.

Avoid third-party driver sites, as they may have outdated or invalid certificates.

Clear old driver files

Uninstall any previous HP printer drivers from Control Panel (Windows) or System Preferences (macOS).

Restart your computer before installing the new driver.

Check system date and time

Ensure your computer’s date and time are correct.

Incorrect system clocks can cause certificate validation failures.

Run installer as administrator

Right-click the driver installer and select “Run as administrator.”

This ensures proper permissions for certificate validation.

Update root certificates on your system

Install the latest Windows or macOS updates to refresh trusted root certificates.

This helps the system recognize HP’s driver signatures.

Try HP Easy Start utility

HP Easy Start automatically installs the latest drivers and firmware.

It can bypass certificate issues by pulling directly from HP servers.

Update printer firmware

From the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app, check for firmware updates.

Firmware updates often resolve certificate-related communication errors.

I hope this helps.
