Hi @Blp123,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble printing from your desktop. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to try to resolve the issue.

Check Printer Connection

  • USB Printer: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the desktop.
  • Network Printer: Make sure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your desktop.

Restart Devices

  • Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and turn it back on.
  • Desktop: Restart your computer to refresh the connection.

Set Printer as Default

  1. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on your printer and select Set as default printer.

Clear Print Queue

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Go to Devices and Printers.
  3. Double-click on your printer icon.
  4. Cancel all documents in the queue.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

  1. Download the latest drivers from the HP website for your specific printer model.
  2. Install the drivers and follow the installation instructions.
  3. If you already have the latest drivers, try uninstalling and reinstalling them.

Check Printer Status

  • Ensure that the printer is online and not set to offline mode.
  • In Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer and check if there’s an option to set it online.

Run Windows Troubleshooter

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  2. Select Printer and run the troubleshooter.

Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings

  • Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can block printer connections. Temporarily disable them to see if it resolves the issue.

Ensure Print Spooler Service is Running

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Find Print Spooler, right-click on it, and select Restart.

Check Printer Permissions

  1. In Devices and Printers, right-click your printer and select Printer properties.
  2. Go to the Security tab and ensure your user account has the necessary permissions.

Try a Different Application

  • Attempt to print from different applications (e.g., Word, Notepad, browser) to see if the issue is application-specific.

Verify Network Configuration (for Network Printers)

  1. Ensure the printer's IP address hasn't changed.
  2. Re-add the printer using the correct IP address:
    • Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a printer > The printer that I want isn’t listed > Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
