Hi @Marajoy729

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

It sounds like you're encountering an issue with HP Instant Ink enrollment, even though you've replaced the cartridges in your HP ENVY 5640 printer. If your printer is asking about Instant Ink enrollment, it may be trying to connect to the HP Instant Ink service for cartridge recognition and activation. Let's go through a few steps to resolve the issue:

1. Check HP Instant Ink Status

  • Ensure Enrollment: Verify whether you're currently enrolled in HP Instant Ink or if the printer is still trying to connect to the service.
    • Go to the HP Instant Ink website (www.hpinstantink.com) and sign in with your HP account to check your Instant Ink subscription status.
    • If you're not enrolled yet, you can sign up for the service.
    • If you were previously enrolled, check if the subscription is still active or if there are any issues with your account or payment method.

2. Activate the New Cartridges

  • Sometimes, new Instant Ink cartridges need to be activated by connecting to the HP servers. This can be done through the printer itself once it's connected to the internet.
  • If the printer asks you to sign up for Instant Ink, follow the instructions on the printer’s display or through the HP Smart app to complete the activation process.

3. Check the Printer Connection

  • From the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard and ensure the printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Once connected to Wi-Fi, the printer can verify the Instant Ink status.

4. Try Printing Without Instant Ink

  1. Insert non-Instant Ink cartridges: If the printer is asking for Instant Ink enrollment, try inserting regular HP cartridges instead of the Instant Ink ones.
  2. Cancel Instant Ink Enrollment: You can try canceling the Instant Ink subscription from the printer’s settings (or through the HP Smart app) if you no longer wish to use the service.

5. Reset the Printer

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you can try resetting your printer to restore its default settings:
    • Hard reset: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for about 30 seconds. Then plug it back in, power it on, and try printing again.
    • Factory reset: On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults. This will reset all settings, including Instant Ink and network settings.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
