My printer stopped printing color a while ago. I called HP and did all the trouble shooting things and nothing worked. They basically told me that something's broken that can't be fixed and I should buy a new printer. But, the black ink still worked and I kept using my printer. I was on the instant ink program and decided to cancel. I didn't realize that you can't use the instant ink cartridges once you cancel  the service. So I bought a new HP black ink cartridge. I didn't want to buy color cartridges since it doesn't work. Now the printer won't print with just a black ink cartridge, and I can't leave the color cartridges in because they are the instant ink ones that will not work without the service. How do I bypass this? I am so frustrated with printers. They only last a few years, break and then HP pushes you to buy a new one instead of making printers that can actually be fixed.

Hi @SamJoMo,

I'd like to help.

The printer you own is 4 cartridge printer, which would require all the 4 cartridges to be inserted in the printer in order to print.

Your printer is designed to print only when all ink cartridges have ink. To prevent clogs in the printing mechanism and other print quality issues, some ink must be available in all the cartridges to perform periodic servicing tasks.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for reaching out. I resolved my problem by buying a Brother printer. Probably will never buy an HP printer again.
