Just set up a brand new HP 5100 all in one yesterday with an also brand new Windows 11 laptop. Used the app, let it do it all. Worked great. Printed invoices last night. Today, nothing. It finds the printer, prints printer reports through the HP Smart App, but will NOT print a single document no matter what I do. Drug out my 2011 Macbook Air and turned it on, it found the printer, I installed it, and printed whatever I wanted in a matter of about 20 seconds. Someone PLEASE help before I make expensive roadkill out of this brand new printer and laptop.

Hi @JackDM,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 5100 All-in-One Printer is correctly set up and working on your Mac, but not printing from your new Windows 11 laptop despite being detected. This can usually be resolved with a few targeted steps.

1. Run HP Smart's "Diagnose & Fix" Tool

HP Smart includes a built-in tool to automatically detect and fix common printing issues.

  • Open the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 laptop.
  • Click on “Printer Settings” or the printer image.
  • Select “Diagnose & Fix”.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Check Print Queue and Restart Print Spooler

Sometimes print jobs get stuck in the queue.

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click, and choose Restart.
  • Also, clear any stuck jobs in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > [Your Printer] > Open print queue.

3. Reinstall the Printer Driver

Corrupted or outdated drivers can cause printing issues.

4. Check for Windows 11 Compatibility Issues

Some updates may interfere with printer functionality.

5. Try Printing from Another App

Sometimes the issue is app-specific. Try printing from:

  • Notepad
  • WordPad
  • Microsoft Word

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
