I am setting up this printer right out of the box. No drivers have touched it yet, I have setup network settings so I can remote into this printer over the web. In the Security tab I have applied passwords and Access Codes to:
-Set the Local Administrator Password
-Set the Service Access Code
-Set the Remote Configuration Password
-PJL Security
I have also successfully upgraded to the latest firmware. I have powered this printer on and off after applying all these changes but at the control panel, without Signing In, I can already see options that include the "Settings" option and when making changes such as enabling/disabling USB, I am able to do it. In addition, when I try to sign in as Administrator, User, or Service, the access code I set up doesn't work. When I take the access codes off, it still doesn't work. I have gone through the manual several times and unless I missed something, it shows me nothing on why this is going on. Can someone please help?

You are close but you need to do one more thing: You need to go into the embedded webserver, go to the security tab, click on access control and lock out those items from the control panel you do not want people to access, Sample is from my M577 but the steps are identical for the M608. As you can see you can block guests and users while still leaving functions active if someone has the admin login credentials.

Hi trooper,
Almost there; that Access Control secures the control panel as stated but now, My Access code is not working. I double checked my code numerous times; it's only 8 digits. And I am getting username and code denied. Why is this?

Figured it out. The wording on the Printer compared to the General Security settings via the web is confusing (there is an "Access Code" you setup which is only numeric). At the printer Control Panel when signing in, they ask you for "Access Code." What I needed to do was in the box of "Access Code" at the printer Control Panel is push "OK" and then a digital keyboard pops up... this is where I entered my "Password" I setup and then I was able to sign into the printer. HP I hope this wording is more clarified in the newer models.
-trooper thanks again for you help.
