Hi @Teddy2011,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the scanning issue with your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148dw, try the following steps:
Check Connections:
- Ensure the printer is properly connected to your network or computer via USB, Ethernet, or Wi-Fi.
- Restart your printer and computer to refresh the connection.
Update or Reinstall Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support page and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
- Uninstall the current drivers and software for your printer from your computer.
- Install the newly downloaded drivers and software.
HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This utility can diagnose and fix common scanning problems.
Check Windows Services:
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Ensure that the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service is running. If it’s not, right-click it, select Start, and set it to Automatic.
Firewall and Antivirus:
- Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software to see if they are blocking the scanner from connecting.
HP Smart App:
- Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed from the Microsoft Store.
- Try scanning using the HP Smart app instead of the default Windows Scan app.
Check Network Configuration:
- If your printer is connected via Wi-Fi, make sure it’s on the same network as your computer.
- If you’re using a USB connection, try using a different USB port or cable.
Scanner Hardware Test:
- Use the printer’s built-in functionality to test the scanner. Place a document on the scanner glass and use the printer’s control panel to scan a test page.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
