HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

An error code appeared suddenly on the screen (Error C4EB8001). I had not used the printer in a couple of days, so this did not happen during a job and the last time I used it, I had had no problems printing. I unplugged the printer, waited and restarted it, but the error code came right back and I was unable to reach any other menu item on the screen. I changed ink cartridges, just in case they were the problem, and then restarted  the printer. I tried to run the Windows diagnostic tool and I cleaned the carriage with a soft cloth. I have no ideas re. what else to try. I do not see any paper jammed in the printer and nothing else seems wrong that I can see.

Any thoughts, anyone?

HI @EllyEng, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The C4EB8001 error code on your HP ENVY Photo 7855 usually indicates a firmware, hardware, or carriage-related issue. Since you've already tried power cycling, changing ink cartridges, and cleaning the carriage, here are some additional steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Perform a Full Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
  • Remove all ink cartridges.
  • Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cables (if connected).
  • Wait 5 minutes.
  • Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid using power strips).
  • Turn the printer on (without inserting the ink cartridges yet).
  • If the error disappears, insert the cartridges one by one and check if any of them trigger the error.

Check the Carriage Movement

  • Turn off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
  • Gently move the printhead carriage left and right to see if it's stuck.
  • Remove any obstructions (like tiny bits of paper or ink buildup).
  • Close the printer and restart it.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

Since you cannot access the menu on the screen:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons on the printer while turning it on.
  • Keep holding until the power light blinks.
  • Release the buttons and wait for the printer to restart.

Update Firmware (if possible)

If the error allows you to access settings:

  • Open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant on your PC.
  • Go to Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware.
  • If an update is available, install it.

Try a Semi-Full Reset (Last Resort)

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the Back and Cancel buttons, then turn the printer on.
  • When the support menu appears, select Reset.
  • Choose Semi-Full Reset (this will restore factory settings but may erase saved Wi-Fi settings).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for all the additional suggestions, which I had unfortunately already attempted. I was later on the phone for hours 3x with HP Tech Support and they told me that, after owning it for such a short time, my printer had unrecoverable hardware failure. Upsetting to say the least.

To add insult to injury, I bought another similar HP printer that takes exactly the same #64 ink cartridges and none of the brand new cartridges I already had worked, because HP builds a special chip with software into its printers that stops the use of a cartridge for a different printer (even if it's the same cartridge). They literally told me to throw them away or recycle them! This is beyond outrageous! I honestly regret buying another HP printer and I can assure you this is the last time.

Your private message clearly indicates you did not read my response. Why would you suggest I get in touch with Tech Support when I told you above that I've already done that 3 X? Honestly!!!
