officejet pro 8710 printer

I have received 3 different hp officejet pro 8710 printers. When trying to setup the printer on my network, when I get to "Easy Start" will open, my computer will not recognize the printer. Then the printer goes into a loop stating "printer error" , turn off printer and then turn back on. I do this and it makes noise and tepeats the "printer error" message. You cannot get any other message on the printer screen. My network supports two hp computers and a hp officejet 4620 day in and day out.  The techs (in chat) run all types of tests and then send me another refurbished printer. The same thing occurs with them. There, surely, has to be a way to reset this printer to factory conditions without the printer panel which will not respond. This has been going on for several months. The printer (when setting up) prints out the alignment sheet before it balks. HELP!

Not sure about the noise - printers do make noise, of course.  There are "good" and "bad"  noises.  Check the installed cartridges to make sure they are full seated.

Can you scan the alignment sheet on the printer glass after it prints?

The sheet likely has instructions on it to help correctly place the sheet on the printer glass.

The printer prints the alignment page and then I put in the password for the wifi. Then the printer "goes crazy" and displays two different screens on the panel. :printer error turn off.pngprinter error turn off.pngPrinter screen.png

If I understand the way it works:

The printed alignment page must be scanned into the printer to align the cartridges.

 

I don't think you can skip the alignment.

Contact HP Support again and ask for help.

Use the same contact information you used for your last case (when they sent you this replacement printer).

I may have mentioned, but when I try to turn the printer off, it never turns off. When I push the switch, it blanks out the display and when i let the swithch back out, it sounds like it is going to print and then displays the "Printer Error" message again. Also, the display will briefly display the "strange screen that looks like a universal power swithch and some numbers below it". But it is only briefly displayed and then gone.

Printing the alignment page and then scanning would help the first issue (if it can be fixed).

 

However, if the printer cannot align the cartridges and cannot perform basic switch on / switch off, then it is not going to connect to your wireless or do much of anything else correctly.  

 

Solutions for hardware Power issues

 

From your printer Troubleshooting > Power

It is possible that the replacement printer is still at fault - it is also possible the environment is affecting the printer hardware.

 

Read both Troubleshooting documents and decide how to proceed.

 

Because you are having issues with any printer you connect, consider moving the printer to a different outlet.

 

Pay attention to the suggestion to not use a power strip or battery backup for (at least) the testing phase.  If the power to the printer is compromised (voltage too low or too high), nothing else can work as expected.  Power strips and battery backup units can be wonderful devices - and can sometimes prevent sensitive equipment from functioning properly.
