Hi @HBongiorno,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw cartridge is not seating properly in the loading tray, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Verify Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridge (202A) is compatible with your printer model (M281fdw). Sometimes, incorrect cartridge models may not fit correctly.
  • Check Cartridge Orientation: Make sure the cartridge is oriented correctly. It should align with the guides inside the printer and slide in smoothly.
  • Inspect for Obstructions: Look inside the printer and check for any obstructions or debris that might be preventing the cartridge from seating properly.
  • Reposition and Retry: Remove the cartridge and carefully reposition it. Try gently pushing it into place again, ensuring it fits snugly and securely.
  • Verify Locking Mechanism: Some cartridges have a locking mechanism that needs to be engaged correctly. Ensure that any locking tabs or levers on the cartridge are in the correct position.
  • Check for Damage: Inspect the cartridge itself for any physical damage that might be causing it to not fit properly. If damaged, consider replacing the cartridge.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, resetting the printer by powering it off and on again can resolve minor issues with cartridge seating.
  • Update Firmware/Drivers: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware and drivers installed. Sometimes, updates can improve compatibility and functionality.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the issue with the cartridge not sitting fully in the loading tray of your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
