DeskJet 2775

I am using a cartridge that I refilled myself. At first the print could run. But after a while, I experienced a cartridge problem. I could print at first, but suddenly the printer stopped printing and the ink indicator light blinked. HP Smart said there was a cartridge problem. I have tried to remove and reinstall it. Sometimes the light stops blinking but when I try to print again it stops and blinks again. Please help me solve this problem!

@Villsex,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Since you're using a refilled cartridge in your HP DeskJet 2775, the printer may be detecting it as an incompatible or faulty cartridge. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the cartridge and check for ink leakage or dirt on the metal contacts.
  • Gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Let it dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

Reset the Printer

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait for 3-5 minutes.
  • Plug the power cord back in and turn the printer on.
  • Try printing again.

Disable HP Cartridge Protection (If Enabled)

If you previously used HP Instant Ink or enabled cartridge protection, your refilled cartridge may be blocked. Try this:

  • Open HP Smart or HP Printer Assistant on your computer.
  • Go to Settings > Printer Settings > HP Cartridge Protection (the menu name may vary).
  • If enabled, disable cartridge protection and restart the printer.

Use the Printer's "Single-Cartridge Mode"

  • Try removing the problematic cartridge (either black or color).
  • Print using only one cartridge (black or color).
  • If it prints fine with one cartridge, the issue is likely with the other cartridge.

Try Another Cartridge

  • If possible, try using an original HP 682 cartridge (black or tri-color) to check if the problem persists.
  • If the issue disappears, your refilled cartridge is likely being blocked or has a defect.

Hard Reset the Printer

  • With the printer turned on, press and hold Power + Cancel for about 10 seconds.
  • Release the buttons and let the printer restart.
  • Try printing again.

If the problem continues, your printer might permanently reject refilled cartridges, and you may need a genuine HP 682 cartridge.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
