I have a Office Jet 6970 that I'm getting cartridge unrecognized error message on.
I have tried replacing black ink cartridge with HP ink, and two off brand that I have used for years.
I have even tried putting empty cartridge back in to see what it does.
Each time I have turned machine off and on.
I have cleaned all contacts with rubbing alcohol.
Everything I have tried results in the same error message.
Now it looks like I've bought 3 black high ink cartridges when I should have bought a new printer.

They might have multiple options to help you with this.
