Hi @Niunia,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Envy 5549 printer is encountering a blockage or mechanical issue that's preventing the cartridge carriage from moving, even though the cartridges are installed correctly. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Power off and unplug the printer:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds before proceeding.

2. Check for paper jams or obstructions:

  • Open the printer cover and carefully check for any paper, debris, or foreign objects blocking the cartridge carriage or its movement path.
  • Ensure that there are no loose pieces of paper or packaging left inside the printer that could be causing an obstruction.

3. Manually move the carriage:

  • Gently try to move the cartridge carriage by hand (if it's not stuck too tightly). Be careful not to apply too much force, as this could damage the printer.
  • If the carriage moves, see if there’s a visible blockage or issue that needs attention.

4. Reinstall the ink cartridges:

  • After clearing any obstruction, reinstall the ink cartridges. Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly, with the color cartridge in the left slot and the black cartridge in the right slot.
  • Press firmly on the cartridges to ensure they are securely seated in their respective slots.

5. Reset the printer:

  • Plug the printer back into the power source and turn it on.
  • Perform a hard reset by holding the power button down for 15-20 seconds.

6. Check the cartridge and printer status:

  • Once the printer is on, check the display screen (if applicable) for any error messages. If the "cartridge error" message still appears, you may need to try another set of ink cartridges to rule out defective ones.

7. Perform a printer diagnostic:

  • If the issue persists, you can try running the built-in diagnostic tool on the printer or use the HP Smart app to run a diagnostic test on your printer.

If none of these steps resolve the issue and the carriage is still not moving, it could be a mechanical fault with the printer
