HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer

I have an HP Office Jet Pro 8720 which I purchased in the United States. I have moved to the UK and need to change the region of the printer to be compatible with locally available cartridges.

I called HP support before to update the country for my ongoing Instant Ink subscription from the US but was told that it's not possible to ship US cartridges overseas. He told me that in order to change the region on the printer I would need to create a new UK HP account and I was instructed to buy genuine HP cartridges in the UK and install them in the printer.

After having done all that, I called support back and they told me it wasn't possible to change the region on my 8720 printer and to go ahead and buy a new one in the UK in order to be able to use my new cartridges.

All I want is to change my printer´s region to the UK so I can use it to get my work done. The customer service has been so far completely unhelpful.

Hi @holysmokey,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are looking for help with moving your instant ink account to another country.

Instant Ink accounts are linked to the country/region of your HP account.

  • To change the country/region for a printer in Instant Ink, add the printer to a different HP account that is in the desired country/region.
  • Cancel the original Instant Ink account to prevent continued billing. Enrolling the printer in a new account does not automatically delete the old account.
  • HP Instant Ink Platinum: The service is only available within the continental United States. If you move out of the service area, your subscription is cancelled and you may be charged an early cancellation fee.

Refer to this video link to Cancel the Instant ink subscription.

Refer to this link to re-enroll in instant ink for the new country once again using a new email ID.

I hope this helps.

@Irwin6  that is incorrect. I already cancelled instant ink and created a new HP account from the UK. What I need help with is getting the support code to change the printer region to the UK so it can recognize and use cartridges here.

Hi @holysmokey,

If you are planning to use the store bought ink cartridges in UK. You will need to perform a regional reset on the printer.

To perform a printer region reset you need to meet the following conditions:

Which country did you move from and to?

Do you have the store bought ink cartridges for both regions? (You cannot use instant ink cartridges to perform regional reset)

Do you have a printer USB cable or is it connected wirelessly?

Do you have the printer full feature software or the HP smart app and drivers installed on your PC?

If you meet the above conditions then let me know the following details:

1) The operating system of your PC, is it Windows or Mac?

2) Confirm the printer model.

Note: Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
