I have had this problem for months...  The compatible cartridge didn't last very long so I decided not to buy them again and get originals in future.  Everytime I change the black toner, from a compatible cartridge to an original, I get nothing printing except black pages.    These are usually solid black without any text.  I have sent numerous cartridges back and re-ordered just incase the cartridges were faulty (3 times now).  What I can't understand is why, when I reinstall the old (nearly used) compatible cartridge, it immediately works perfectly again. Please help - this is driving me mad and I am really close the having to buy a new machine.

@Adambede, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

By compatible ink cartridge, do you mean non HP inks?

Using the non-HP ink cartridges could damage the print mechanism. If you have already used one or more HP genuine ink cartridges and it did not work, this could be a hardware issue with the printer.

Now, you may either continue using the non-HP inks at your own discretion or reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

You may perform the steps mentioned in this document to resolve black not printing issue - Fixing Poor Print Quality
